A fresh add to my music knowledge base, and I've been jamming this one the TSID soundsystem for a good while since. Doubt I'll ever be able to fully explain what this music does to me, and just does to the soul. But for all the reggae fans out there, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Well birthday today then innit. Didn't really have any birthday records in mind for todays upload, though we were well overdue in posting any sort of reggae jam, and so whether you whine or grine I'm hoping you'll be feeling fine to this top 1960's era cut from our man : Prince Buster. Fact fans might also be interested to know that it was this track from which UK legends "Madness," took their name. S'true!

A pretty damn terrific little sort of Soul type jam from Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff today. All thanks to my need for a "Venti Cappacino to go," that I ordered from a Starbucks across the road from Columbia University a couple of days ago.  You see they had this playing over the tannoy while I was standing in line to make my order, and the job was done. Love at first listen!

John, why you ask me to do that? I just want you to spell New York, Jim. Well alright, I'm gonna go ahead man. N-E-W Y-O-R-K, that's New York man. Bit of an unplanned Rambo special 'round TSID.com tonight all. I recalled this long overdue UK made dancehall/reggae smash from 1986 for a start. Linked then via a previous Courtney Melody upload that also mentions Rambo, and is what I believe to be a track made in response to tonights Ackie post. AND THEN I remembered this one of kind version of the Three Little Pigs by New York metal heads Green Jelly.

A big thanks out to Tom for his comment on a previous Courtney Melody post that I did. Were it not for him getting involved I'd not have been turned on to this snarling D&B monster which samples Courtney Melody's superb Ninja Mi Ninja cut - originally released in 1986. I kind of mentioned that interaction was my primary goal in the About section of TSID, and well dividends have been paid!! Chuffed to bits with this I am. Proper jump-up D&B to get your weekend started.

Big up the dance with this 1969 classic from Lloyd Robinson. Not sure what to say about this 40yr old record, but that it's quite unlike any other reggae tune I've ever heard. Perhaps I've not been digging hard enough, but it just comes across as something so unique with it's mad sounds and awesome rumbling sub bass. And it's also Optimo approved! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmuch love!

"Sublime utilized a genre-blending mash-up style which incorporated elements of dub, reggae, ska, punk rock, improvised dancehall, hip hop, psychedelic rock and acoustic rock...," <- words all nicked from Wikipedia, though it's all true and does the trick in introducing this absolutely ace band of Californian music men.

Wicked & wild, this is rastafari style... Stepping back in time 33yrs to 1976 with this product of Lee "Scratch" Perry's legendary Black Ark studios. I've actually got the album playing in the backround as I type this, and I have to say that it's a hard decision choosing a song from what is a start-to-finish set of quality recordings.

This is one track that I've been waiting until just this exact day to drop. As I've mentioned in a previous post, I'm currently going to night school to re-do my high school maths for the purpose of getting into a degree course at an as yet unknown top class London university. The reason why I mentioned having waited until today to do this post is that I got back my first exam result last night, and was absolutely over the moon to come in with a storming A* result.

Todays post is ALL about the video. I dont think that I've have enjoyed the track half as much, had I not heard it for the first time when played through this Youtube clip - yesterday! Credit where credit is due, I have to thank the Better Late Than Never site for the heads up on this one. The Smiley Culture was video linked on their pages, and it's actually the 2nd of my big tunes of 2009 that I can tip my hat to the BLTN crew in appreciation for. Cheers!

Jamaican reggae legends Toots & The Maytals on the upload today. The Toots & The Maytals page on the Wikipedia paints a really interesting story of the group, and it's a story that spans over 40 succesful years in music. So successful in fact, that they're credited with the record for most number 1's in Jamaica, with a grand total figure of 31! Respect!

Just hit the download button, and sing along to the super sweet voice of the Jamaican legend that is Desmond Dekker. I've typed so much mindless bullshit while trying to get this post done, that it's just getting ridiculous. Well over 2hrs to get as far as this. True.

One thing I did learn which I will share, is that Reggae Regular actually originate from Germany, and so aren't ideally linked to the Jamaican flag above.

Not really getting your weekend started this, well I guess that's all dependant on the weekend you've got planned really. Personally, I'm a little banged up with a painful back that I picked up while trying to get something shifted at work a couple of days ago, so this laid back style suits me just fine. The sixties unintentionally getting featured quite well here this week it would seem. Looking at 1966 here, to be exact.

DJ's watch yer bassbins. Courtney Melody riding a colossal tidal wave of bass niceness here. The year 1986. Fast forward by 22yrs and todays the right kind of day for browsing the blogs, and more or less just hanging around the internet with some music on. It's 5°C here in London at the moment, and I couldn't think of much better else to do. Hope you enjoy this record. Courtney's best if you're asking me... Ninja's man! Cant be bettered!

Well well well... only my best performing site visit day ever! Crikey, last I looked and I was showing a record high 99 visitors for today. Chuffed! Admittedly about a week ago I was a little down on the fact that peeps weren't leaving any comments, and readership levels were low, and this was actually the true cause for the dip in recent regular positings.

I'd been hunting this riddim for ages!! Heard first through an excellent Optimo mix album, though all I had from it was just the bassline to work with at the time. +/-4yrs of hunting and I finally tracked it down as best I could to the King Tubby produced "Die Yu Die," by Michael Batis. It was actually down to another blogger having put the hard-to-find "King Tubby Presents Soundclash Dubplate Style Part 1," album up that did the trick for me, and well...

Well overdue on the reggae tip lately!! I first heard Barrington through his track "Too Experienced," and followed up on a few more tracks shortly after. Never been let down by the music, and I'm hoping you'll feel the same way after you grab these downloads. Mood elevation music. No downers here... Get both!

Everyone needs Reggae in their lives. It's a sad one that does not enjoy this magical music. Admittedly the modern stuff isn't much to my tastes, though give me anything from the 80's and before and it's almost always going to be a winner. I have to thank the excellent (sometime) DJ team of John Eden & Paul Meme for turning me on to a lot of excellent reggae, purely through the few mixes that they've put out.
