Truth be told I've been wanting to big up Eli "Paperboy" Reed & The True Loves after having caught their ace live set at the 100 Club on Wednesday, BUT I'm going to have to keep holding out another day or two more as I keep coming into other bits of amazing music. Too much new music, and the list of upcoming post idea's really is as long as my arm... actually both arms!

Been a fair while since we dropped some Disco! on your ass, and so I thought I'd come in with a bit of a biggie in the form this 1984 release dance mix of the classic Shoot Your Shot by Divine. I'm sitting indoors with nothing to do but play some music, and this one has stood out for me as the best of the bunch so far. Hoping your weekend is a little more action packed than mine! Enjoy.

Just a slightly different slant on the OG 1982 version, though a nice little mix up it is too with additional strange sampled bits laid over here and there, and all in all it makes for a bit of change. And after all, a change is as good as a holiday, or so I believe the saying goes! Talking bollocks now I think.

As always Optimo comes up trumps with the super amazing shit, and they continue the trend with the recently started running of a new series of podcasts.

Can I start by saying that I am totally jacking Beat Electric's shit right here. Both the excellent documentary video link below, and todays post track were originally put up on their altogether better music blog. You'll find this and two other similarly excellent tracks on there too. It's definitely a site I recommend you check out and bookmark! Over then to the tune in question. I'm not going to really add much except for that it's hot, it's banging, it's from 1989, and I love it.

I haven't brought the rock ruckus to these pages for ages now, and after the break that I've had I would have liked to have gone for something with a bit more kick than this. Still, 30yr old Swedish punk rock makes for something a little different on your Saturday evening and that maybe counts for a good enough reason.  Plus I went to go and see the pretty cool Swedish circus act "Cirkus Cirkör," a couple days ago in Londons West End. 2 reasons!

Bit of an unplanned Rambo special 'round TSID.com tonight all. I recalled this long overdue UK made dancehall/reggae smash from 1986 for a start. Linked then via a previous Courtney Melody upload that also mentions Rambo, and is what I believe to be a track made in response to tonights Ackie post. AND THEN I remembered this one of kind version of the Three Little Pigs by New York metal heads Green Jelly.

I dont know about you, but I reckon there's something quite beautiful about this, which is not really the way you'd expect a heavy metal track to be labelled. I dont know man, searing LARGE guitar based musical soundscapes at work and all that. Bass guitar solo's, lead guitar solo's... yadda yadda yadda... it's all here simply enough. No lyrics as is "hinted," at in the title. Coming on strong!

Back with a bit of belter to help ease the pain of having your fav music blog AWOL for the past ten days. Been a bit busy doing absolutely nothing all this time, though have recently picked up a new bicycle which I have big plans to use as the catalyst for the new and improved healthy goal setting & achieving me! Part of that plan is to also get back to posting on da regular, so let's see how that goes...

An absolute gem of a track upload today! Definitely up there in my top tracks ever list, and the same could possibly be said for the much referenced Optimo crew, as the track has turned up from time to time across some of their top class (and always much recommended!!) DJ mixes. Not much for me to say about the song except that it's in German, it sounds fantastic, and is about polar bears - hence the pic used today. 

Listening to a 2ManyDJ's mix in the car last night reminded of this classic record, and the thought that I needed to get it onto the site ASAP! Released 20yrs ago, this particular track played a leading role in getting the album, from which it came, banned from sale in the United States, as it was thought that the attached Parental Advisory label was not enough to warn listeners of just what it was they could expect to hear. 

I first came into this record via Optimo's own JD Twitch "Betty Botox Presents...," edit, entitled "Back to the Piano Magic." It is that same edit that I prefer most out of all the multiple versions born from the Lamont Dozier original, but for today it's over to this recording from Richie Haven, which itself dates back to the year of my birth : 1980!

It might seem like we've fallen on Hard Times down at T.S.I.D towers, what with the extended post hiatus going on, but no worries peeps as it's going to be back to normal from here on... I think. Just got a little lazy over my short holiday period you see, and despite the fact that I practically spent all my time at home anyway, I still found myself just pretty much taking a break from practically everything.

Been wanting to throw this up for a while now, though each time I come to post I'm reminded why I hadn't done it previously. Basically there's just nothing to link. No news, no vids, no nothing... nada! And I myself dont have any related stories, so it's going to be a quiet one from me. Credited heads up to the magnicent Optimo crew on this one. Just one of many many many killer pieces of music that they've turned me on to.

Todays post is ALL about the video. I dont think that I've have enjoyed the track half as much, had I not heard it for the first time when played through this Youtube clip - yesterday! Credit where credit is due, I have to thank the Better Late Than Never site for the heads up on this one. The Smiley Culture was video linked on their pages, and it's actually the 2nd of my big tunes of 2009 that I can tip my hat to the BLTN crew in appreciation for. Cheers!

Time to kick it with some of that old skool hip-hop flava... erm.. yeah. Not sure what to tell you about this crew, as there's not a single bit of info that I can find out there for me to piece together any sort of story! Discogs lists only two 12's released back in 1988 and 1989 respectively, and that about wraps it up... short and sweet.

Jamaican reggae legends Toots & The Maytals on the upload today. The Toots & The Maytals page on the Wikipedia paints a really interesting story of the group, and it's a story that spans over 40 succesful years in music. So successful in fact, that they're credited with the record for most number 1's in Jamaica, with a grand total figure of 31! Respect!

Got another case of just wanting to put up a track that struck a chord with me recently, though at the same time being caught out by not really having anything to add in terms of a story, or lame-o little anecdote, to accompany the music. All I can say that as a kid from the 80's (represent!), this song for some reason brings back a few memories, though none that I can actually recall well, or at all.

A nod to my fathers musical influence again this evening, as I have done before with my previous Bob Dylan and Rolling Stones posts. As is the case with so many people I speak to, our teenage years were spent turning our noses up at a lot of our parents music, though for some reason when you reach your 20's you soon begin to realise what a superfan you've actually become.

Surprising cool fact of the day is that legendary 80's/90's US Hip-Hop star Slick Rick was actually born in my hood! South Wimbledon to be exact. South Wimbledon represent! I mean it means little, but it's still kind of cool for me in a vague sort of way. I also found out that the eye-patch is for real! The result of broken glass in his eye as a baby, or so says my mate Wikipedia...

Heard Coldplay's "Talk," on the drive home from work today. While not the biggest Coldplay fan, I have to still say that I really do like this track of theirs, and would definitely say that it's my fav from them to date. Anyhow for those that might not know, Coldplay borrowed very heavily from the Kraftwerk original, which having heard them this evening then went on to give me the reminder needed to play and post the super OG version available here for you now.

New Years just around the corner, and I think it may be best to welcome in 2009 with a motherfucking metal rock out!! ha! Take your pick, but I'm proposing this 20yr old slice of Metallica gold from the ...And Justice For All album. About a month or so ago I went out and bought all of the first 5 albums released by the band. I'd heard all of 'em back in my boarding school days, via the shared stereo in our 6 man dorm room, and at the time I must admit that I wasn't really feeling the METAL, what with me being a 24/7 dance music head back then. Anyhow give it a little time and slowly but surely I began to come around to the sound, and it wasn't much longer before long that superfan status was achieved. Result! The Youtube clip is a live version from 1989. Otherwise feeling really good about the blog so far. Just yesterday I found out that the cracking mp3 blog aggregator Elbo.ws have listed me on their site, and results of which so far have been great. Chuffed!
